Hyper_Pacing on the River Sanzu, 05.24 – 05.31.14 Deep Ellum Windows, Dallas, TX

05-21-14, 23:16. A hole appears, causing a vacuum between two points 160 parsecs apart from one another. Mirphak of the Perseus constellation sounds its arrival, bringing with it its demon- headed brother Algol, Gorgon Medusa. The hole, now a tether between two planes, becomes an interval made present through its very absence, persisting as simultaneous form and non- form.

The Sanzu River, much like other mythical ‘rivers of death’ is an in-between-place: a transitional stage, or threshold between binary oppositions. Hyper_Pacing on the River Sanzu adopts the psychology of such a place to assess the types of spatial relationships suggested by the multi- dimensional concept MA(間), or “interval” between two (or more) spatial or temporal things and events. Architectural space, sound, video, and sculptural elements exist as separate but conscientious planes, so to emphasis the intervals occurring in their overlap, creating a space/ time experience both correlative and omnipresent.
